My publisher told me that the book is available in the UK and will be available any day now in the US. In fact, UPS just plopped my copies on my doorstep an hour ago! They have that new car smell

As advertised, yesterday was the official release date for my book. I emailed the publisher to find out how things were going and this was their response:
“Hi Chris,
We got advance copies in yesterday and they look
fabulous! Some copies were sent direct from the printer to SIGGRAPH
so they are available there this week.
The overall publication date has slipped back slightly to August 20th
because the number of pre-ordered copies meant that we needed to
increase our initial print run (which obviously takes a little longer).
We currently have 2,500 copies pre-ordered which is very promising for
the success of the book.”
So, if the book has to be delayed a little longer, having too many pre-orders is a pretty damn good reason. I’ll take it. Thanks everyone for the incredible support. I think this book may already be a success!

I’ve been waiting for this release and was happy when my local B&N said it was released on Aug 6. I went in Monday and they showed it released but no copies, bummer. I called all over today with no luck.
I’d rather pick it up myself but I guess I’ll go the pre order route as well. Make it 2,501!

I just got an email from amazon asking me to approve a sep 10 delivery date

My amazon receipt said the estimated delivery date is October 12-October 18. I am sad.

Hey guys - yeah this is a bummer for me also - I just emailed my publisher in hopes of getting an official word as to what is happening and why.
red shoe: that’s lame! October 12-18 is unacceptable.
Andre: there will be a companion website for the book - http://www.howtocheatinflash.com but that isn’t live yet either. I am going to find out asap what the deal is - it’s priority for me this week. Stay tuned and on behalf of whoever is responsible - I apologize.

Ok - just heard back from the publisher regarding this issue:
“Thanks for letting me know about this. The book is now published in the UK and is due to publish any day now in the US. I don’t know why Amazon are telling its customers differently but will look into it to see if we can get them to stop as soon as possible.”
So it seems that Amazon may be sending out some sort of auto-response with an inaccurate delay date(s).

I’m one of the people who pre-ordered your book. I ordered through Amazon, and I received an email on the 20th saying that the item has shipped. I’m really looking forward to it’s arrival. I only wish that I could’ve gotten an autographed copy!

A friend ordered your book for me from amazon yesterday:
‘Shipping estimate for these items: August 21, 2007
Delivery estimate: September 10, 2007 - September 24, 2007′
For delivery in the Netherlands..
So it still seems to take long and the estimate is rough.

I’m also in the Netherlands and I just received an email from Amazon.uk stating that my (pre-ordered) copy has, finally, been dispatched. I will have it by the weekend.
Can’t wait!

Glad to hear they are starting to ship - the publisher told me that anyone in the US should expect the book to ship same day (from amazon). Sorry for the delays - the book sold over 2500 pre-orders which happens to be quite high and unexpected for a book of this nature.

Hey Chris,
I pre-ordered your book months ago on Amazon and got it on Saturday. I’ve read most of it so far. I sure wish I had this when I first started flash… lots of great things in there. Having worked with you before, I adopted a few of your methods, but in your book you share so many other ways of doing the same thing… different path, same result. I don’t care how many years anyone works in digital art, there are always new things to learn. This book is like looking over your shoulder and having a peek at how you streamline your work flow. I’ve already picked up a few things I’ve never known about. I’m also enjoying the interludes… you’re an inspiration and you have so much to pass on to other artists. Adobe picked a great person for this publication. I will congratulate you already for a successful book. Excellent work.

Delivery was much faster than Amazon predicted!
Since Chris has been so generous sharing his knowledge and tutorials on the internet, you may wonder if a book might ad much. Well it does.
Only have it for two days now, but it already proved to be very useful, interesting, clear, fun and I’m sure it will remain to be all that for a longtime.

Got mine in last week…gues the mid October-Amazon estimate was off…thank God. It is an amazing book Chris - it’s really laid out in a user friendly style, with a lot of depth.
