Flattery or theft?
Entry Feed TrackbackI consider this FOL (fact of life) and something that simply happens when your work becomes accessible via the world wide web. In most cases I find it very flattering when I see someone using my work for educational purposes but to advertise it as their own work is something very different. The silver lining is seeing the number of downloads so far
Makes me realize how much I should be developing my own mobile content ![]()

Can’t do anything but laugh.
That’s really a lot of downloads!
Hahaha… XD

sue him for every cent
but seriously - it’s really bad that people just rip original work like that. no integrity
James at Nov 8, 07 at 6:01 pm
well - i don’t believe anyone is making money off of this particular theme - i downloaded it for free so i guess overall no harm is being done financially - i saw a lot of Spongebob themes as well as themes using other owned characters - I acknowledge that if it is out there, it subject to being used beyond my control - i just object to the user not mentioning me at all - he never even tried to change a color or anything - just took the entire character as is and made it seem like his own. Oh well

It would be great if they put your site name on there… free advertisement!

It’s inevitable when dealing with the net that someone out there will post your work elsewhere (especially when it’s good), but most of the time I’ve noticed it’s done by fans who had no ill-intent. I’ve seen people’s work stolen and sold for prints, way more of a kick in the pants.
I used to have an account on Deviant Art. That site had rampant art theft; you’d see peoples art on other people’s galleries, crudely altered with different colors painted over it. The site would usually catch it within a week, but lots of people would post stolen work on MySpace as well where you can’t do anything about it.
I would recommend a watermark on high-rez pics you’ve got, but aside from that, it’s usually no more then an annoyance.

I would seu their asses. They’ve not even mentioned your name or anything. What is this?!

Your annoyance is justified, but no worries Chris. The Flashsters of the Universe recognize a Georgenes when they see one.
Greg at Nov 20, 07 at 4:45 pm
I recognizxed a Georgenes, too. Tonight, watching “Bones” there was a Papa Murphy’s commercial feature unmistakably Chris Georgenes bees buzzing about their new “Honey Whole Wheat” crust. I hope you got paid for that. They are straight out of your animation book.

Laura: really? wow! I must look for that
chris at Nov 28, 07 at 4:17 pm
Okay, maybe not “straight” out of your book, maybe just stinkin’ darn close IMHO.
Honestly, I went thru your bee-blur exercise awhile ago; and promptly loaned your book out (it’s a hot item
so I can’t confirm it’s actually lifted as opposed to “faithfully inspired by.”
Here’s a link to a picture, since I TiVo’d the “Bones” episode:
I can post a low-tech .avi of the commercial if you want.

That sucks!
That’s a lot of downloads and yes, maybe you should be thinking mobile content.
Ken Griffin at Jan 29, 08 at 2:25 am
Hey Ken - yes! Mobile is exactly what I have been doing lately - got myself a Nokia N95 courtesy of my Adobe friends and it’s an amzing piece of hardware - my iphone is now collecting serious amounts of dust.
