Spring fever…
Entry Feed TrackbackJust an “I’m still here” entry in case any of you were wondering…were you? The past several weeks have been sort of a transitional period for me. After almost 7 years as a fulltime freelancer, I have accepted an offer I couldn’t refuse. I am Art & Animation Director for Say We All Games (SWAG), formerly Say Design. I met John Say (founder) many moons ago when we both were speaking at the Flash Forward Conference in San Francisco (2003?). Soon after he hired me to design and animate a couple of game. for Nickelodeon and just recently asked me to come aboard fulltime. What’s even better is that I still work remotely (from home) and can also keep the Mudbubble name going on the side. So I continue to freelance but provide full focus on game design and animation.
Throw in the first signs of warm weather and the crack of baseball bats, and suddenly blogging takes a seat in the back row of life.

Congratulations Chris! You are very talented and have a lot to offer to the company.

Yes, I was wondering. Though I understand a “low profile” after that ruckus you caused….. lol, just kidding! Hey that’s great news Chris! It’s great to know that you will now have more of a schedule so you can, in fact, do your thing on the side. I have been freelancing for about a year now. I had previously worked the same type of setup, full time employee working from “satellite” office. It was sweet! But beware, that work can very easily take you past the 5 p.m. end of the day bell. Probably because there is no shuffling of employees getting ready to walk out the door at 5 to remind you to stop working. Anyway, I am also getting a full time gig. Their insurance ROCKS and I won’t be chained to my desk 16-7. I will now have time to devote to my favorite projects/hobbies that have been just sitting there. So GOOD LUCK, I know you are going to knock ‘em dead! They will LOVE your stuff like we all do!!
They say everything happens in 3’s…. (who’s next?)

Congrats Chris. it doesnt matter working past the 5pm end of day bell when you can roll out of bed at 9 and take a leisurely breakfast around 10
You’ll have to excuse my ignorance if I dont quite get exactly how their (your, hehe) site works, but I had a look around the (arcade) games section and got to a load of Vh1 / mtv / various other dead links and so I got worn down super-fast and turned it off. It looks like they need you. Good luck.

Good for you Chris. The full-time freelance gig it a tough racket. It takes a lot more than great skills and talent; you also have to deal with all the business stuff like contracts and hunting down checks. Hats off to you with your success working on your own over the years. But it must be a welcome change to have a steady paycheck and hopefully some benefits like health insurance. Glad to hear you can still work from home and it’s also good to hear you’ll be staying in beantown. Not enough animators in Boston as it is, hate to see another great talent head west.
Best of luck with the new job!
